ECB Stark: Have About 1 Year To Address Greek Collateral Issue
HILDESHEIM, Germany -(Dow Jones)- The European Central Bank will continue to accept BBB-rated securities in its refinancing operations until the end of 2010, which gives lenders holding Greek debt some time, a high-ranking ECB policy maker said Monday.
As part of its bank support measures during the financial crisis, the ECB had widened the range of collateral until 2010.
Accordingly, "we have 10 days and one year to address this question," said ECB Executive Board member Juergen Stark, adding later that there was the same amount of time to convince financial markets of Greece's creditworthiness.
